Clyde & Co is proud to have brought its lawyers and clients together for a Climate Change Law Hackathon organised in partnership with The Chancery Lane Project this July.

The event saw 60 lawyers from 4 continents across Clyde & Co's global network of employees and clients come together to draft six new climate-conscious contractual clauses and one climate-conscious law. Our precedent clauses will be published alongside others in the third edition of Climate Contract Playbook by the Chancery Lane Project in late September 2020 during NY Climate Week. The clauses will be made available to the entire legal profession to adopt in their drafting and thus amplify the impact of our work.

Wynne Lawrence, Senior Associate, who initiated our engagement with The Chancery Lane Project said: "This is an important initiative, bringing together lawyers across the profession, in-house and private practice, and from around the world in a true spirit of collaboration to foster engagement and discussion around how the law can further climate action. It is not just about environmental law or international climate treaties – this project is highlighting how everyday commercial contractual relations have the potential to move the dial and progress sustainability objectives. It is great to see the chorus of ideas and insights that many minds bring to the table during a legal hack – and good fun, too."

Clyde & Co's lawyers collectively devoted more than 500 Pro Bono hours of their time to the Climate Change Law Hackathon. We look forward to organising more climate change hackathons in future, and hope that many other law firms join in this worthwhile project.
